Switching to live

How to move a paper strategy to live trading.

Updated 2026-05-29·2 min read

Switching to live trading requires a paid plan and a connected exchange account. There is no one-click promote button — you launch a new live strategy and configure it from the interpret screen.

What are the requirements for live trading?

  • A paid plan (Starter or above)
  • A connected live exchange account (see Connecting an exchange)
  • Credits in your account to cover execution costs

The Free plan restricts you to one paper agent and no live trading.

How to switch

There is no one-click "promote to live" button. To run a strategy live:

  1. Stop the paper strategy (if you want to keep your agent slots available).
  2. Go to Agents → New strategy (or click the + button).
  3. Re-submit the same description or re-use the strategy's generated Python.
  4. On the interpret screen, select your live exchange account instead of a paper venue.
  5. Set your real capital allocation.
  6. Launch.

The new live strategy is a fresh instance — its P&L history starts from zero.

How do you compare paper and live performance?

You can run both a paper and a live version of the same strategy simultaneously (counting two agent slots). This is useful for validating that live fills match paper expectations.

What are paper accounts on live exchanges?

Some exchanges (e.g. Binance testnet) have paper-trading modes. These appear in Coinrule as separate paper venues (paper_binance, paper_hyperliquid) and behave like standard paper accounts — fills are simulated against testnet data.
